The Problem: COBEY received an order in 2004 to furnish an API-614 Lube Oil Console designed for 376 GPM to be installed on an off shore platform off the coast of Nova Scotia. The first submittal drawing showed a footprint having dimensions of 414"L x 168"W which is typical for a system designed for this flow and in compliance with API614 requirements.
Only after attending a Vendor Coordination Meeting for the entire project did COBEY learn that there was a space limitation which basically left a plot size of 252" L x 215" W for the oil console. Coupled with this space issue was the revelation that one of the platform support members, approximately 24" in diameter, shared the same space that the console would be installed in.
COBEY's Solution: After a combination of design changes, along with COBEY's ability to generate a SolidWorks 3D model incorporating the platform support member running through the console's air space, we were able to re-submit a general arrangement drawing which fully complied with the space restrictions given us without compromising maintenance accessibility or safety issues. |
