| Case Study CO-5739 |
The Problem: A major US oil refinery was installing two steam-turbine driven compressor packages for a new refining process. Although both compressors required identical lube and control oil duties, the plant space available for each was very different. One unit was installed in an open area of the refinery with ample maintenance space. The other unit was to be located under an existing mezzanine with very limited access.
COBEY's Solution: For the unit installed in the open area, the standard COBEY design was used, featuring an efficient and easily accessible layout. The approach for the unit in limited space was quite different. Using the latest in solid modeling software, COBEY designers replicated the existing plant conditions and used the layout to model a custom-fit oil system. The result was a very compact, but user friendly system that dropped into the existing footprint. This allowed the refinery to save valuable space and to take advantage of a previously under utilized area of the plant. |
